Alyssa came into this world in Aurora Colorado in 1988. She was the much anticipated first child of her mother Roxanne, her dad Fred and Bob and Ilene’s first grand child.
My mom wanted to come into the delivery room with me which was a good thing, but my dad roamed the halls taking pictures of the staff and my EKG’s occasionally. He said he didn’t go in with us girls he was not going in now.
After a trip to the Nutcracker with her dad at the age of 3, Alyssa decided she wanted to be a ballerina. She joined the Academy of Colorado Ballet at age 6 and continued with them for years. She joined the company in 2005 at age 17.
She attended elementary school at Sts Peter and Paul. She attended St Mary’s academy and Legacy High school and graduated in 2005. She continued to dance until 2011. She played many memorable roles such as Clara in the Nutcracker, following the spark that had first started at the early outing with her dad.
One day My Grandma and my Mom were together and Alyssa was young and having a hard time figuring out what to call both grandmas so my mom said call me wonderful Grandma and my grandma Great Grandma. She always looked for a card that said wonderful grandma.
She had recently completed a phlebotomy class and was looking forward to that career.
Anything Alyssa set her mind to she could do. She was a wonderful Baker something she got from her Grandma and Grandpa. She had taken up cross-stitch, sewing, rug hooking and many other projects.. She also rescued a 14 year old dog “Bob” and gave him a great life until his passing at age 16. She called him her “Baby Boy Bob”
Every life she touched was better for knowing her and I know she was the light of my life. She is truly a spirit that will be missed.
She is Survived by her mother Roxanne and Step father Tim, Her Father, Fred Velasquez Step brothers Nick and Zach Thorvaldson, Step Sister Shelby Thorvaldson, Grandparents Ilene and Bob Niehoff, Margie and Gerry Thorvaldson, Tina Velasquez, Paul and Molly Baca, Phil and Lorraine Velasquez, Mary and Max Martinez, Ross Velasquez, Bob and Michelle Szydlowski, Scott and Lesha Thorvaldson, Kris and Wendy Thorvaldson, cousins and loved ones.
Her last entry in her dairy included the Serenity prayer
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change
Courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at time
Enjoying one moment at a time, Accepting hardships as a pathway to peace
Taking as he did ,this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it,
Trusting that he will make all things right.
If I surrender to his will
That I may be responsibly happy in this life
And supremely happy with him forever in the next.
