Mrs. Ethel G. Redd age 92, formerly of 152 East 22nd. St. passed away on Monday, July 27, 2009 at Pleasant Ridge Manor, East after an extended illness.
She was born to the late Mary and Richard Green on October 17, 1916. She was a member of Holy Trinity Church of God in Christ where her cousin, Elder Willie Harris is her Pastor.
She was God fearing, loved the Lord and constantly read her Bible. She spent a great deal of her life, time, and energy entertaining, and encouraging her children, nieces, nephews, and neighborhood children by taking them to the circus, parades, movies, the library, and occasionally out to eat. She will be remembered as a sharp dresser in her younger days. She would lend her best dresses to people in need. In fact, most people thought that she was the First National Bank because she seldom turned down someone in need.
Ethel enjoyed word search puzzles and was a jokester with a big smile. Yet, she was serious person when she needed to be. She was a fine lady who loved everyone and will be sadly missed by her beloved family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her husband Richard Redd; a son Donald Redd; five brothers: Gabriel, Sidney, Bill, Sam, and Henry Green; two sisters: Mary Green-Manus, and Rachel Green.
She leaves to celebrate her life, a son, Ricky Redd (Joey); a brother, Arthur Green (Pinky); she helped raise two daughters: Carol Woods, and Kim Thompson, and a granddaughter, Indea Beason; a special niece and nephew-in-law who she resided with until her failing health, Thomas and Annie Myers; a special niece and great niece Loretta and Denice Gamble, who were her long time caregivers and God-daughter, Kathy Myers; and a host of nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. From a special nephew, "It's not how you start, it's how you finish. I'm sure God will say, Aunt Ethel, Well done good and faithful servant, well done".
