Funeral services for Doyle Beggs, 84, of Portales, formerly of Tatum ,will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at Calvary Baptist Church in Portales with Rev. Brad Morgan and Jason Kizer officiating. Burial will follow in the Portales Cemetery with Aaron Kizer, Justyn Elliott, Johnny Allison, George Beggs, Levi Beggs, Billy Little and Jeffery Beggs serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mack Tucker and Max Wright.

Doyle Franklin Beggs was born March 5, 1925, in Comanche, TX, to Dora and William T. Beggs and died March 7, 2009, in Portales. The family homesteaded in the Hiway community when he was 6 years old. He grew up ranching and farming. Doyle attended the one room school at Hiway. In 1945, at the age of 20, he moved to Brownfield, TX, where he was employed by the city in the Parks and Recreation Department. In 1963, he returned to Portales and was employed as a driver for Tidwell Trucking for several years. Later he worked for the City of Portales as a grounds keeper in the Parks and Recreation Department. Following his retirement in 1990, he moved to Tatum. He recently returned to Portales in order that family members could assist in his care. After moving to Brownfield, he was married to his first wife, Ruth. She preceded him in death on March 7, 1986. On March 5, 1987, in Farwell, TX, he was married to his wife, Jubie. Mr. Beggs was baptized as a young man in the Church of Christ. He enjoyed camping, fishing and hunting and spending time with his family members.

He is survived by his wife, Jubie of Tatum; a sister, Rosie Posey of Booneville, AR; and numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Grady and George "Dink" Beggs; 5 sisters, Dolly Beggs, Alcie Region, Lilly Oneather Gregory, Myrtle Miller and Mary Elizabeth Sims; and a son, Charlie Don George, as well as by his first wife.
