Obituary:

Barbara A. "Bobbe" Nicoletti, 83 formerly of West Long Branch, passed away Wednesday at Manor by the Sea Ocean Grove.

Mrs. Nicoletti was born in Englewood, New Jersey. She retired from the Monmouth County Prosecutors office as the Special Projects Coordinator. Bobbe was the coordinator of Monmouth County Task Force on Drunk Driving and Child Abuse. She formed the pilot program for Victims of Drunk Driving Support Group. She created the AVIDD (Assistants of Victims of Drunk Driving). Bobbe created the Our Kids Die Laughing drunk driving promotion in Monmouth County High Schools. She initiated the first crack kills prevention/education in New Jersey.

Mrs. Nicoletti was Director of Public Relations at Jersey Shore Medical Center from 1977 to 1985. She coordinated and organized all communications and publicity to the news media. She chaired all steering committees concerning community awareness and special events at the hospital. Bobbe coordinated the first press conference at Jersey Shore Medical Center, which she followed with eleven major press events that received national attention. Mrs. Nicoletti created and coordinated Mayhem on the Highways, a drunk-driving program for high school students. This program drew 10,000 students from Monmouth and Ocean Counties and attracted national publicity. She initiated the physicians referral system at Jersey Shore Medical Center. Always working for the youth of the communities Mrs. Nicoletti organized and ran Medical Center tour programs for pre-schoolers, students and adults.

She was a member of the Association for Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention and Treatment of Monmouth County, and a member of the Advisory Board of Monmouth County Sexual Abuse Treatment and Prevention Program. She was a member of the Advisory Board of the Explorer Program of Boy Scouts of America and a member of the Professional Advisory Committee to the Monmouth County Board of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services.

Mrs. Nicoletti was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Womens Resource and Survival Center. She served on Brookdale Community College Cooperative Education Advisory Committee. She was a Charter Member of the Monmouth County Task Force on Drunk Driving. Bobbe was a member of the Public Relations Committee, New Jersey Hospital Association.

Mrs. Nicoletti was honored by National Council on Alcoholism/Monmouth Task Force on Drunk Driving with the Community Leadership Award. She later received the Distinguished Community Service Award from the National Council on Alcoholism. Bobbe received the Community Service Award from the Monmouth County Board of Drug Abuse. She was honored by the Jewish War Veterans, Belmar Chapter with their Distinguished Service Award. She received from the Monmouth County Board of Freeholders a Proclamation for her years of distinguished service to Monmouth County. She also was awarded the Community Service Award from the Point Pleasant Rotary Club.

Bobbe was a member of the Jersey Shore Public Relations and Advertising Association and a member of the West Long Branch Alliance on Alcohol and Drug Abuse.

Mrs. Nicoletti began her career at Benjamin Sonnenberg Advertising, New York City. She left the firm to raise her family and when she returned to work she joined Jersey Shore Medical Center. She was awarded the prestigious Jasper, for her Neonatal ICU Slide Presentation and for the Most Original Creative Public Relations Effort at Jersey Shore. She was awarded the Percy award for her Single Event Public Relations Effort.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, George A. Nicoletti, in 1990. Surviving are a son, Gerald A. Nicoletti, Greene, RI; a daughter, Georgette A. Floquet, Clarksburg, WV; and three grandchildren, Jacob and Joshua Floquet and Kyra Nicoletti.
