Failed to connect to MySQL: Too many connections
Robert J. Collins, 70 of Interlaken passed away suddenly at his home Thursday.
In September 2002, Mr. Collins became the President of Birdsall Engineering, Eatontown where he served over 4 years. He then was the Director of Business Development for Birdsall Services Group, Inc. in their corporate headquarters, Sea Girt.
He served as the Administrator of the County of Monmouth from 1984 until 2002. From 1982 to 1984 he was the Administrator and Public Safety Director for the City of Long Branch. Prior to that Mr. Collins served in many positions in State and Local Government. In 1977, he served the United States Embassy in the Philippines.
In 1996, he was awarded the New Jersey Association of Counties Achievement Award & served as its President. In June 2000, he was awarded by the Monmouth Council of Boy Scouts the prestigious Joshua Huddy Award. In October 2001, he was inducted into the Matawan High School Hall of Fame for his leadership on and off the field. He was awarded the Spinnaker Award by the Eastern Monmouth Area Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Collins was the recipient of the Monmouth Ocean Development Council Silver Gull Award. In June 2002, he was honored by the Brookdale Trustees with their annual award, at which time they named the Robert J. Collins Arena at the Lincroft campus.
He serves on the Brookdale Community College Foundation Board.
Mr. Collins is a communicant of Holy Spirit RC Church and a member of its parish council.
He received his Masters in public administration from Farleigh Dickinson University. He was graduated from Niagara University, Niagara Falls, NY and Matawan High School. Mr.Collins served his country faithfully in the United States Army.
He was pre-deceased by his first wife Bette J. Collins in 1982. Surviving is his wife Kathryn Burns Collins; one son and his partner Robert J., II & Charles Schreck, Asbury Park; a daughter and son-in-law Kathleen & Craig Peterson, Oakhurst; one sister, Margaret Collins; three brothers and two sisters-in-law; Thomas, Ocean Grove; William& Maureen of Keyport, and John & Victoria of Pine Beach; and his two grandchildren Connor Robert and Kaithlyn Elizabeth Peterson. He will be lovingly remembered by many family members and friends.
Visitation will be Saturday, 7- 9 pm and Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 PM at the Woolley Funeral Home 10 Morrell Street at Broadway, Long Branch. The funeral mass will be offered Monday 10:00 AM at the Holy Spirit RC Church,705 Second Avenue, Asbury Park.
