John (Stephen) "Knee-Hi" La Vallee, 56, of Union Center Road, Ulster Park, NY died Thursday morning, December 22, 2011 at the Benedictine Hospital.
John was born in Kingston, NY on June 8, 1955, a son of Marsha Heinrich Seher and the late John La Vallee, and stepson of Donald Seher.
A graduate of Beacon High School, he attended Dutchess County Community College, and earned a Bachelor of Science degree from SUNY Institute of Technology Utica-Rome. He attended Ulster County BOCES where he studied to become a certified nursing assistant (CNA). John was employed as a CNA and as an orderly at The Kingston Hospital where he served as a dedicated employee for over 10 years. He assisted all hospital departments in "helping to get patients needs done quickly and with the best possible care".
John proudly achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, and was a past member of Chelsea and St. Remy Fire Police, Beacon Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and Tompkins Hose Fire Department. He was a communicant of St. John's Roman Catholic Church in Beacon.
He is survived at home by his loving wife of 17 years, Terry Ann (Markle) La Vallee, three brothers Gregory La Vallee and his wife Laura of Beacon, Brendan Guernsey and his wife Debbie of Pleasant Valley, and Brian Guernsey of Newburgh, one sister Danielle "Guppy" La Vallee and her husband James of San Diego, California, four aunts, Janet Battistoni and her husband David, Theresa Horn, Ella Flock, and Betty Freeman and her husband Tom, and two uncles, Joseph La Vallee and Richard Heinrich. Many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great-nephews, and friends also survive.
John is predeceased his grandparents Sarah and Lyle La Vallee, Claire and Frank Heinrich, and Uncles, Charles La Vallee and Peter Heinrich.
The funeral will be held 11am Tuesday at the Gilpatric - VanVliet Funeral Home, 27 Smith Ave, Kingston, with Pastor Joseph Mitchell of the Union Center Community Church officiating. Burial will follow at St. Remy Rural Cemetery. The La Vallee family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday from 3 to 7pm.
