Larry C. Hinson passed away January 28, 2013 in Katy, Texas after an extended illness at the age of 77. Before moving to Texas five years ago, he and his wife resided in Fruitland. He was born February 27, 1935 in Monroe, NC to parents George and Nancy (Harrell) Hinson.
After graduating from Monroe High School, he attended the University of North Carolina where he received his BS and JD degrees. He also served as Captain in the Marines. Larry had an accounting and business management service for more than 32 years and was dedicated to and greatly respected by his many clients who usually became his friends. He truly enjoyed serving his clients in establishing and managing their businesses. He also enjoyed occasionally teaching business management college classes. Larry enjoyed researching and writing and was a published author of one book and many newspaper and magazine articles. To those who knew him, he was kind, humble, genuine and a devoted friend. Larry was affectionately called “Poppy” by his grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.
A loving husband and father, he is survived by his wife of 30 years, Brenda Mathis Hinson; four daughters, Melissa (Jack) Reichmeier, Overland Park, KS; Darenda Thompson, St. Augustine, FL; Tracey (John) Stipp, Charlotte, NC; Deanna (Bill) French, Katy, TX; 10 grandchildren; Sister, Margaret (Sis) Carter, Jacksonville, FL; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Al and Liz Herman, Palatka, FL; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, February 4 from 11:30 to 12:30 at Johnson-Overturf Funeral Home, Palatka. Graveside services will follow at 1:00 at Palatka Memorial Gardens with Rev. Wayne Carter officiating.
