Obituary:

Lewiston – Clemence Georgette (Jean) Moreau, 88, a resident of Schooner Estates, Auburn, formerly a longtime resident of Livermore Falls, died Sunday afternoon at Marshwood Center in Lewiston. She was born July 2, 1924 in Durham, the daughter of Oliva and Leda (Laliberte) Jean. Clemence lived on her grandfather’s farm (Oliver Jean) in Durham for some of her childhood until her father Oliva Jean bought a farm in Auburn. Her grandparents later moved in with her parents on their farm in Auburn. She attended school in Auburn; it was a one room school house that held grades 1 through 8. Around the age of 16, Clemence went to work at Fred Drapeau’s store. Clemence had room, board and $4.00 a week. One of Clemence first purchases was a pair of ice skates and would skate on the edges of the Androscogggin River. After working at Fred Drapeau’s store she moved in with Grandma Sophie Laliberte in Lewiston and worked in the textile mills, the Bleachery, and at the Hill’s Mill. Clemence and Theresa Moreau (Roland Moreau’s wife) worked together at Hill’s Mill, and that is how she met her future husband, Normand Moreau. Normand and Clemence were married in the Upper Chapel of St. Peter’s and Paul’s Catholic Church in Lewiston on July 5, 1947. Normand and Clemence bought a house on Knapp Street in Livermore Falls where they raised their children. Normand died May 6, 1984 and Clemence continued to live there until the year 2002, living at this residence for 50 years. Clemence at that time moved in with her son Maurice and his wife Wendy in Livermore, and had recently moved to Schooner Estates in Auburn. She was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay and also attended St. Phillips Church in Auburn. She was a member of the Daughters of Isabella and Jay-Livermore Falls Senior Citizens. She was as active as an 88 year old could be, she loved going to church, eating out and going to her weekly seniors meetings. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed. She is survived by her four sons, Marcel Moreau and his wife Sue of Vassalboro; Maurice Moreau and his wife Wendy of Livermore; Donald Moreau and companion Sherry Baker of Livermore; and Daniel Moreau of Jay; her daughter, Georgette Ouellette and her husband Paul of Raymond; 8 grandchildren, Lee Moreau, Erin Hutton, Kenneth and Andrew Moreau, Kellie and Kevin Ouellette and April and Nathan Moreau; 6 great-grandchildren, Kahlan and Luka Moreau, Emma and Forest Hutton, Brianna Ouellette and Miles Ouellette-Moreau; her 7th great-grandchild is due in July 2013; her brother, Roger Jean of Biddeford; and sisters, Rita Castonguay of Jay; Beatrice Gallant of Lewiston and Annabelle Paradis of Jay. She was predeceased by her brother Roland Jean and her sister, Lucille Cusson. Messages of condolence may be sent to: www.finleyfuneralhome.com
