LUCHKO, Stephen – 87, formerly of North Haledon passed away on November 29, 2012. Steve was born in Nanticoke, PA on 9/13/1925 to Roman and Julia (nee Kanyuck) Luchko, a coal miner and homemaker. His family moved to Passaic in 1938 and after graduating from Passaic High School Steve decided to serve his country and joined the Navy in 1943. He set sail on the U.S.S. Hutchinson to the South Pacific where he gained abundant sea stories and remarkable adventures that he shared with pride his whole life-long. In 1946 Steve was awarded an honorable discharge from the Navy. In 1959 through 1986, Steve served his community as a Passaic Fireman and has resided for the past 9 years with his fellow comrades, New Jersey’s bravest, at the Firemen’s Home in Boonton, NJ.

Always an adventurous soul, Steve traveled many times from coast to coast in what he considered the most beautiful country in the world, the United States of America, where his passion for fishing was enjoyed in the most amazing settings. He will also be remembered for the care he gave his backyard garden and the undying love he had for his dogs.

He leaves behind his two beloved nieces, Lori Charpentier and her husband Paul of Wayne and Lynn Subick and her husband Steve of Mahwah, along with their children, Zachary and Kendall Charpentier and Braezen and Saige Subick, and his sister-in-law, Harriet Luchko of Clifton. Steve was predeceased by his wife Bertha (nee Leskowitz) in 1998 and brother Raymond Luchko in 1997.
