Hazel Wisener Morton, age 88, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012. She was born June 8, 1924, to Emmet and Eva Wisener in Winston County, Ala. She and Ernest Morton were married on October 22, 1944, in Winston County. In 1949, they moved to North Miami, Fla., and then to Okeechobee in 1959. Hazel was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith attending the 1st Baptist Church of Basinger. She was a proud and loving grandmother and treated each grandchild as they were the one and only. She loved cooking, gardening and attending church. She would acknowledge everyone with cards on their special occasions, never missing a single one. For the past few years she lived with her daughter, Sherry, who was also her care giver. Hazel was the last of her generation.
She was predeceased in 1991 by her husband, Ernest; in 2005 by her son, Pastor Doyce Morton; in 2009 by her daughter, Carolyn Raulerson; and great-grandson, little Raymond Hooker.
She is survived by her son, Wayne (Rhonda) Morton of Okeechobee; daughters, Regena (Wilbur) Walker of Jacksonville, Fla., Sherry Stevens of Okeechobee; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Eloise Wisener and son-in-law, Michael Raulerson, both of Okeechobee; daughter-in-law, Jackie Morton of Vero Beach, Fla.; and a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends in Okeechobee, Alabama, and Texas.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Aug. 24, 2012, at the North Okeechobee Church of God, 15949 NW 30th Terr., Okeechobee, from 10 a.m. until service time of 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Basinger Cemetery.
In lieu, of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Hazel’s memory to Hospice of Okeechobee, P.O. Box 1548, Okeechobee, FL 34973.
