Mrs. Norma Joyce Watters Salmon, age 88, of 2293 Calhoun Road, Rome, GA, died Monday morning, August 28, 2006.Mrs. Salmon was born in Floyd County on August 13, 1918, a daughter of the late James Norman Watters and Ruth Miller Watters. She was a 1935 graduate of Model High School, worked at Kessler's on Broad Street as a sales clerk and was earlier a master beautician. Mrs. Salmon was a member of the Fifth Avenue Baptist Church where she served many years as Cradle Roll Director and a teacher of the Junior Sunday School Class. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother she treasured each family member and was the historian of her and prior generations. Mrs. Salmon and her husband were faithful in visiting the shut-ins of their church and community. On June 26, 1937 at Enon Baptist Church Joyce Watters was united in Holy Matrimony to Raymond J. Salmon by Rev. Ira D. Harris, pastor. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Salmon was preceded in death by a great-grandson, Dylan Lee Salmon in 1999, three sisters, Lenoise Watters Moore, Eva Watters Lindsey, Virginia Watters Nichols.Mrs. Salmon is survived by her husband, Raymond J. Salmon; one daughter, Karen Gale "Kay" Salmon Shahan, of Rome; one son and daughter-in-law, Raymond Sherold, Sr., and Jean Salmon of Rome; six grandchildren, Regina Salmon Justice (Steve), Raymond Sherold Salmon, Jr. (Carol), David Salmon (Cindy), Misty Shahan Poon (Jason), Johnna Shahan, and Haley Shahan; twelve great-grandchildren, Trey and Taylor Salmon, Jordan and Dawson Salmon, Brady Mergenthal, Travis and Raegan Henderson, Jacob, Jeremy and Amanda Justice, Beth Justice Hanks (Tim), and Lexie Williamson. Nieces and nephews also surviveFuneral services for Mrs. Salmon will be held on Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Lloyd and Dr. Ralph Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow in the Floyd Memory Gardens with Rev. Clyde Wilson conducting graveside rites. Musical call to worship and eulogy will be provided by Joy Lindsey Barrett. The Adorations will sing "Because He Lives" and "How Great Thou Art".Mrs. Salmon will lay in-state in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. At other hours they will be at the residence.Pallbearers are asked to meet at the funeral home on Thursday by 1:30 p.m. and include Ramey Salmon, David Salmon, Steve Justice, Jason Poon, Jordan Salmon, Trey Salmon, Travis Henderson, Brady Mergenthal, Jacob Justice, and John Shahan. Honorary pallbearers will be comprised of employees of Sherold Salmon Motor Company, Auto Max Rent-A-Car and Clayton Collier, Al Mitchell, John Lanier, Robin Gresham, Charles Moore, Pete Peace, Chris Renfroe, Clint Payne, Danny Mulkey, Joe Williamon and Rev.
