Gilberto Garcia Jr.
Gilberto Garcia Jr., age 69, of Derby, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 4th, 2012 in Griffin Hospital.
Gilberto was born in Toa Baja, P.R. on September 28th, 1942 to Monserrate Fernandez and Gilberto Garcia Sr. Known by most as "Garcia", he was the eldest of six siblings. He moved to the U.S at the age of seven. His first job was with his father delivering coffee. While residing in Massachusetts, Garcia was an active member of society. He founded the Lowell Chapter of the Lion's Club, was the first Hispanic to run for City Council, and owned two local markets, Progresso and Broadway Mini Market. He relocated to Bridgeport in 1980 and in 1987 married Maria Malpica. Garcia had several businesses throughout the years, such as Bus Stop Grocery, El Gordito Restaurant and most notably the bar La Cueva. Most recently he established "La Logia Social Club", 953 East Main St., BPT. Garcia was a man of the people. He was actively involved at St Luke's Church and was known by many and loved by all who knew him well.
Garcia leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife Maria, his dear mother Monce, six children; Angel & William Bernard, Norma Roberts, Victoria Pol, Teddy & Christopher Moore, his brother Rafael Garcia and three sisters Millie Garcia, Nancy Pagan and Margarita Amaya, fifteen grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two on the way, and a host of relatives. He was predeceased by his brother Manolin Negron. He will be deeply missed.
Friends may greet the family on Sunday, January 8th, 2012 from 7:00pm to 9:00pm in St. Luke's ST. Paul Church located at 594 Kossuth Street, Bridgeport, Connecticut. A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, January 9th, 2012 at 10:00am in St. Luke's ST Paul Church, 594 Kossuth St., BPT. Interment will follow to Lakeview Cemetery, 885 Boston Ave, BPT.
