ACTON: Ralph T. Neff, 77, of Acton, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the Emerson Hospital in Concord, surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Diane O. (Alesi) Neff, to whom he was married for 51 years.
Born and raised in Erie, PA, he was the son of the late Ralph and Dorothy (Liebel) Neff, and served honorably in the US Marine Corps. Mr. Neff earned his bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Northeastern University in Boston and was a production/manufacturing engineer for GenRad from 1961 until his retirement in 1993. Ralph then volunteered his time at the Emerson Hospital and the Home Goods Recycling of Massachusetts (HGRM) for many years. He loved working with his hands and was an active hobbiest. He enjoyed woodworking and electronics. His projects included such things as the construction of a wood sailboat, a beautiful pool table and a homemade television. He also specialized in building and flying radio-controlled planes, was a longtime member of the Middlesex County RC Flyers, and passed this passion on to many. Ralph enjoyed camping, RV'ing, and spent many a summer vacation up and down the East coast with his wife and family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four children: Hollace Rooney and husband, Michael T. of Westford; three sons, Andrew Neff and wife, Karen, of Acton, Douglas Neff of Acton, and Michael Neff and wife Colleen of Groton; two granddaughters, Jessica Neff and Makenna Rooney. He was the brother of the late Nancy Lucas.
Visiting hours are Tuesday, January 24th from 5:00-8:00pm at the Acton Funeral Home, 470 Massachusetts Ave (Rte 111) Acton. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, January 25th at 10:00am in St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 89 Arlington Street, Acton, with burial following in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Central Street, West Acton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Home Goods Recycling of Massachusetts (HGRM), 530 Main Street, Acton, MA 01720, or to the charity of one's choice.
