Obituary:

Fred Earl Seymour died at his home in Galloway, NJ due to diabetic complications on December 7, 2011 at the age of 75, just one day after the birth of his first great granddaughter Stella Smith. Fred was born on June 6, 1936 in Linwood, NJ to the late Rita G. Leavey and Earl Seymour. Raised in Pleasantville, NJ, Fred attended St. Peter’s Roman Catholic church and school where he was proud to say he served as an alter boy. In his teen years his family moved to Atlantic City where he always managed to earn a buck, working as a shoe shine kid or a newspaper boy. He was always happy to share stories of growing up in Atlantic City playing hockey and football with his neighborhood friends. Fred served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1954-1962. After his military service he worked as a tractor trailer driver and later retired from NJ Transit.

Fred was the proud father of Fred Michael, Susan Jane Genova and her husband John, and Thomas David. He has four granddaughters; Candace Genova Smith (Christopher Smith), Chelsea Genova, Jessie Seymour, and Maggie Seymour, as well as one great granddaughter Stella Smith. Fred is survived by his brother Billy Seymour and his three children Buck, Trish, and John. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews; Fred and Terry Kov and their sons Daniel and Ryan; Janis and Arthur DiNick and their daughter Jaqueline; Deanna and Charlie Branca and their son Brenden; Bret and Lin Vaks and their daughter Susu; and Matthew Vaks. He is also survived by Jacqueline Zogg and her son Zack; Carolyn Carvelli and her children Lisa, Justin, and Kayla; and Pam Thieman. Fred is predeceased by his sister Patricia Kov, who he affectionately referred to as his Irish twin, as well as his sister Mary Theresa Vaks. He is also predeceased by his nephew Kevin Branca.

Fred was a man with a big heart who enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved traveling to Florida. It was nothing for him to jump in the car and drive to Ft. Lauderdale over night so he could make it to the beach by sunrise. He also loved to play the lottery, always hoping that he would hit the big one! He loved animals, most memorably his orange tabby cat Mickey and his German Sheppard Blitz. He always drove a Mustang and made sure his granddaughters drove them as well. He loved Saco Subs, the Philadelphia Phillies, Ray Orbison, the Everly Brothers, and Celine Dion. His days were filled with breakfast dates at Fitzpatrick’s Deli with his daughter Susan, and trips to Nick’s Roastbeef with his nephew Freddie. As a young married man living in Pleasantville, NJ you could always find him with a group of neighborhood kids playing football at “Bay Stadium” (Greenfield Avenue and the bay) or hauling a car load of kids to the Albany Avenue beach for a late afternoon swim. He will always be remembered for his piercing blue eyes and his warm tender smile.

A mass of Christian burial will be held at 10am on Monday, December 12th at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Absecon, New Jersey. Relatives and friends may call from 8:45am to 9:45am at the church. Interment will be held at Holy Cross Cemetery in Mays Landing, NJ. For online condolences, please visit www.parselsfuneralhome.com.
