Thomas A. Hohenberger, 65, passed away peacefully September 24, 2011 at his home in DeBeque.
Tom was born July 7, 1946 in Defiance, Ohio to Lawrence & Gertrude (Blue) Hohenberger. After graduating from High School, Tom served his country in the Marine Corps. He married his wife & loving partner, Evelyn, on July 7, 1992. He was a proud 4-H leader and a member of the D.A.V. and V.F.W.
Tom loved his family more than life itself. One of the things that he enjoyed most, besides kissing his grandsons & playing cribbage with his wife, was fishing, hunting; mule deer, elk, bear and all kinds of birds, from pheasants to ducks. He had many stories that always captivated his audiences; some sad, like his time in Vietnam, and others happy and funny, like his hunting escapades or the times when numerous actors would stop by his gas station on their way to work, from Slim Pickens to the feature cast of Bonanza.
The world has lost a great man; he was the type of person that would give a helping hand to anyone, regardless of what he thought of you. Tom helped his children in ways too numerous to count, and he could always be counted on to support you 100% of the time. He lived a great life, some moments better than others, but he learned from his mistakes and met some interesting people along his journey. So we all salute him as this soldier goes to his final resting place.
Be at peace old man, we all love you forever.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; sister Marilyn Olson; and brother Michael L. Hohenberger.
He leaves behind the love of his life, Evelyn; son S. Micheal (Tammy) Hohenberger; daughter Jessica C. Hohenberger; brothers Darrell Hohenberger of Nevada and Monty (LaDonna) Stone of California; and his two precious grandsons Justin & Gage Hohenberger.
An Open House Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 1st from 10:00am to 2:00pm at the family home, 12000 County Road 204 in DeBeque.
The family respectfully asks for no flowers. They suggest donations to the John Wayne Cancer Foundation or The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall.
