Mother Josie Rushing was born on April 26, 1922 in Milton, Florida to the late Frank Cobb Sr. and Maggie Orange-Cobb. She was united in marriage to the late O.C. Rushing Sr. Through the union they were blessed with thirteen children.
At an early age she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior faithfully; singing, clapping and worshipping His holy name. She was very active in the church serving many years on the Deaconess Board and the Mission Board. Mother Rushing was known for her humble and gentle spirit. She was a devout Christian whose only purpose in life was to do the will of God.
Mother Rushing passed peacefully from the life the morning of August 20, 2011 after a gradual decline in health. She was surrounded by her loving family during her last days of life.
Mother Rushing is preceded in death by four brothers: Billy Cobb, L.C. Cob, Frank Cobb Jr., and Thomas Cobb; one sister: Pricilla Cobb-Salter; Three Sons: Ceasar Rushing, O.C. Rushing, Jr., and Albert Rushing; one step-son: Willie Frank Rushing; One daughter: Brenda Rushing; and Six grandchildren: Adrian, Rashonda, Zha’Karia, Sharon, Darnell and Landen.
She leaves to cherish her memory five sons: Willie (Mary) Rushing; Jerry Rushing, Wayne (Sheila) Rushing all of Milton, FL; Ernest (Inci) Rushing of Trenton, New Jersey and Johnny (Glenease) Rushing of Crestview, FL. Four Daughter: Gladys McKnight of Tampa, FL; Gloria Smith of Jacksonville, FL; Shirley Leslie of Milton, FL, and Carolyn Clayton of Milton, FL. One sister-in-law: Mrs. Dollie M. Temmer of Long Beach, New York; Five Daughters-in-laws: Regina Rushing, Sallie Carreon, Ella Rushing, Josephine Rushing, and Shirley Rushing; Four Son-in-Laws: Howard McKnight, Derek Clayton, Michael Smith, Roy Platt and Thomas Leslie; Thirty-two Grandchildren; Sixty-One Great Grandchildren; Twenty-eight Great Great Grandchildren; one God-daughter: Derley Hall; a special cousin: Christine Stanton and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
