Joseph W. Baran, 59, of Country Club Road Ashland passed away suddenly on Sunday, August 14th, 2011 at his home. Born in Ashland on November 17,1951, Joe is survived by his wife and best friend Marie DeCarlo Baran. In 15 years of marriage they enjoyed friendship and unconditional love. Joe was most happy when surrounded by his family and friends including his EXTOL family. He was an avid cyclist, world traveler and enjoyed scuba diving excursions. Joe was affectionately known for his beautiful heart and brilliant mind.
Joe was the son of Walter and Irene Baran of Ashland and brother Anthony "Tony" (Sandra) Baran of Ashland. His children and stepchildren include Joshua (Kristen) Baran of Pottsville, PA and their children Spencer and Stella Baran; John (Tiffany) Baran of Manhattan, NY; Amy Toy (Tom) Band of Glenn Mills, PA and their children Tyler, Lexxy, and Lucas Band; Stacy (James) Curran of Orwigsburg, PA and their children Victor Rivera, James and Vaughn Curran; Charles Heizenroth IV of Ashland and his children Macey and Paitra Heizenroth; Jenna (Nicholas) Reese of Norristown, PA and Anthony (Danielle) Heizenroth of Phila., PA.
Joe graduated from Georgetown Prep in 1969; Princeton University, Architecture & Urban Planning 1973; Lehigh University, Electrical Engineering 1977 & University of Pennsylvania, Systems Engineering 1980.
He was cofounder and Chief Technology Officer of EXTOL International Inc., where he was passionate about his work, and loved by all of his employees. He was the principal designer of EXTOL's software products and developed the Company's technology and Support Center in PA. Prior to EXTOL he worked for General Electric Space Division where he was responsible for both hardware and software design for the LandSat communications satellites.
Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011 at 10:30 A.M. in St. Ann Church, Spring & N. Line St., Frackville, PA. Rev. Robert Finlan officiating.
Interment at the convenience of the family. Visitation Wednesday evening 6:00-9:00 P.M. from St. Ann Church, Spring & N. Line St.., Frackville, PA and Thursday
