A very special and unique person has answered God's call. Mrs. Paula Mae Montgomery Hendricks was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to many. She was an immaculate home maker and an excellent cook who enjoyed preparing many delicious dishes for her family and friends. She never met a stranger and always met everyone with a smile and caring heart. She was born October 6, 1940 in Jefferson County, Birmingham, Alabama, to the late Edward Perkins and Queen Esther, Montgomery.
Paula M. Hendricks graduated from Rosedale High School and Pasadena City College. She spent much of her adult life in Pasadena, CA, where she met and married Bobby Hendricks, to which two sons were born. She was employed by the United States Postal Service and worked along with her sister and care-giver, Ms. Holly Montgomery, for many years. Later she moved fora short period back home to open Brown's Bar-B-Q and met old friends and made many new ones. She was a member of Bethel A.M.E. Church, Homewood, AL.
She is survived by two sons, Mr. Solidene (Pamela) and Xavier (Martha) Hendricks; three grandchildren, Yolandria, Tyrell, and Kimberly Hendricks; two great grandchildren; three brothers, Julius and Carl (Gloria) Montgomery, Melbourne, FL, Edward P. Montgomery, Jr., Birmingham, AL; six sisters, Errmatrude Guest, Sacramento, CA, Brunetta Hutchinson, Los Angeles, CA, Doris Cook, Birmingham, AL, Artney (Herman) Turner, Rita Poole, Melbourne, FL, Holly Montgomery, Pasadena, CA; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was predeceased by two sisters, Sylvia and Partia Montgomery, Birmingham, AL.
Her favorite prayer, the Prayer of Serenity:
God, grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.
Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time...
