Lewiston - Carroll E. Norris, Sr., 88, a resident of Marston Hill Road, Minot, died Saturday evening at Central Maine Medical Center. He was born October 13, 1921 in Livermore Falls, the son of Elwin Sawyer Norris and Verna (Cressey) Norris, and attended schools in Stricklands and Livermore Falls. He served as a medic in the U.S, Army during WWII. In 1945, he married Gertrude Warren, who died in 1970. Carroll worked for the Buckfield School System and CMVTI in Auburn, retiring in 1976. He then worked as sextant for the High Street Congregational Church, retiring for good in 1986. Carroll enjoyed times with his family and leaves behind rich memories of his good humor, songs, and stories from the past. Each day began and ended with an enthusiastic song that mirrored his happiness with life. He read often and widely, and knew currents events thoroughly. It was educating to hold a discussion with him. Carroll travelled in the state every weekend with Beverly, enjoying all that Maine has to offer. He is survived by his daughter Eve Ellis of Farmington, and his son Carroll E. Norris, Jr. and wife Susan of Philadelphia, TN., and grandchildren Sarah and Cale Ellis, Fred, Chad, Keith, and Kenneth Norris, and Evie Taylor; brothers William Bunky Norris, Ralph Norris, Russell Norris and wife Jean, sisters Ella Wilkins and husband Thurlow, and Marrion Herrin, several great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Carroll was predeceased by his long-time companion Beverly Burgess, his grandson Christopher Norris, and his beloved daughter Patricia Ann Norris.
