Charlie Royce Newell was born on December 3 1920 in Greyland, Texas to Charlie Elmer and Audrey Tilton (Claterbaugh) Newell. He went home to be his Lord on Saturday, November 28, 2009 in Durant, Oklahoma at the age of 88 years, 11 months and 25 days Dad loved to study his Bible. He said he never picked it up without finding something new that spoke to him, and that it was always revealing new things to him. He enjoyed taking trips with Elba and the senior group from church to Branson, Missouri. For years he enjoyed riding on his motorcycle. He was a very affectionate and sentimental man, and easily cried at a sad movie or love story. He loved people of all ages, both young and old, and it gave him great joy to see the young people in his church grow to maturity in their Christian lives. He was always ready to take on opponents in a game of dominoes, and enjoyed hanging out with his coffee buddies at MacDonalds and the hospital cafeteria. Dad loved singing in the choir, and singing solos every chance he got. And he liked to express himself by writing poetry. Royce owned and operated Newell Furniture from which he had retired. Royce graduated from Matoy High School and was Valedictorian of his senior class. He served in the U. S. Army Air Corps in World War II.
