Timothy Francis McCarthy, 79, passed away on Thursday at Beverly Hospital after a long illness, surrounded by his family. Timothy was the husband of forty-five years to Hannelore (Duwel) McCarthy and was the son of the late Timothy Francis and Catherine (Fitzgerald) McCarthy of Beverly.

Born in Revere, Timothy lived most of his life in Beverly. Known as Timothy, Fran or Francis, he graduated from St. Marys School and St. Johns Prep. He attended Boston College and Northeastern before entering the Army where he was stationed in Europe from 1951 to 1953.

A general contractor for over thirty years, he owned and operated T.F. McCarthy Co. in Beverly which often did projects for the Essex Institute, the House of Seven Gables, and area hospitals. In 1972, he and Hannelore opened the Hannah-Lore Flag Shop in Beverly.

An avid golfer and fisherman for many years, he later turned to gardening where every spring his yard was transformed into a beautiful oasis of vegetables and flowers. But, it could be said that his greatest passion was elaborate storytelling. Timothy was a man who always took great pride in his work he will be missed by his loving family.

Along with his wife, he is survived by four sons: Robert and his wife Kathleen of Salem, MA; Kevin and Jacqueline of Bedford, NY; Stephen and Maureen of Beverly; and Daniel and Lynn of Beverly. He leaves nine grandchildren: William, Jack, Brady, Alexandra, Bailey, Timothy, Kylie, Hannah, and Lily. He is also survived by two brothers: Charles of Manchester, MA; Robert and his wife Jeanne of Bedford, NH; and two sisters: Marilyn Collins and her husband William of Marco Island, FL and Anne Stewart of Daytona Beach, FL. He also leaves sisters-in-laws Greta Heller, Carla Kluge and husband Ernst, and Joyce McCarthy. Also surviving him is his Aunt Anna Dodge, many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
