Rensselaer-Montgomery F. Barnard, age, 85, of Northside Avenue passed away Sunday September 10, 2006 at Evergreen Commons in East Greenbush. He was born in Albany and has been a resident of Rensselaer for all of his life. He was employed by NY Telephone Co. and Verizon as an outside plant engineer, working for the phone company for approximately 40 years. He was a US Marine Corps veteran of WW II, serving in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and the Troy Lodge of Elks BPOE #141. Monty was an avid amateur and semi professional baseball player playing the position of pitcher. He pitched for Van Rensselaer High School, the Rensselaer Twilight League and the Albany Twilight League, playing with the New York Centrals. He was an avid NY Yankee baseball fan and was a communicant of St. Josephs Church in Rensselaer. Husband of the Late Doris Schultz Barnard; father of Sharon B. Rider of Delmar, Gary P. Barnard of Rensselaer and Debra Barnard-Keinath of Midway, GA; grandfather of Kristin Rider Cowell and Scott M. Rider. Brother of Edward Barnard of Rensselaer. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the W.J. Lyons Jr. Funeral Home 1700 Washington Avenue Rensselaer Friday morning at 9:00 and 10:00 at St. Josephs Church Third Street Rensselaer where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered. Relatives and friends are invited and may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4-7 p.m. Interment will be in Bethlehem Cemetery.
