Ruth P. Chicatell, 89 passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2006 peacefully at home with her family and loved ones by her side. She was born on December 24, 1916 the daughter of the late Robert and Percita Jenks Pierrez.
Ruth was a 1934 graduate of Stamford High School. She then attended the all girls college, Danbury State Teachers College, graduating in 1939, which is now known as Western CT State University. She was a kindergarten teacher starting her career at Willard Elementary School, and then teaching at Stark, Westover, Belltown and retiring from Davenport Ridge in 1977, after a 33 year teaching career. During her early years of teaching, Ruth operated the Country Day Camp at her home with her sister in law, Yolanda Robinson to fulfill her love of teaching throughout the summer months. She was creative and talented in all aspects of arts and crafts; from dressmaking to cake decorating, all which were preformed with love and detail.
Ruth was on the Class Reunion Committee for Stamford High School and participated in all her college reunions. She was also a member of the Darien Senior Center, and was very active, with her family social group, known as the "Over 21 Club.
Ruth was a member of the First Congregational Church of Stamford, where she was married in 1940 for 57 years to her late husband, Frank J. Chicatell.
She is survived by three daughters, Carol Somody, and her husband Emery of Riverside, CA; Diane Forlivio and her husband, John of New Canaan, CT; and Nancy Jamroga Rondano of Stamford. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Lisa Cohn and her husband Michael, along with their children, Brendan, Ryan and Marissa, all of Arizona; Rick Somody and his wife, Lisa Marie, along with their son Matthew of California; Johnny and Michael Forlivio, both of New Canaan; Vincent Jamroga of Stamford; and Christine Belanger and her husband, Bob, along with their children, Hannah and Nevin, all of Stamford. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was pre-deceased by her step-mother, Stella Kennedy Pierrez and a sister, Jean P. Devereaux.
A funeral procession will be leaving the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory, 104 Myrtle Avenue, Stamford on Saturday, June 10th at 11:15 AM and proceed to the First Congregational Church of Stamford, Walton Place (at the corner of Bedford & Prospect Streets), Stamford where a funeral service will be celebrated at 12:00 PM with the Reverend Doctor Anne W. Coffman officiating. Interment will follow at Fairfield Memorial Park, Stamford. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, June 9th between the hours of 4 8 PM.
