JOHN LELAND JACK, 83, of Paris, passed from this life on Wednesday September 2, 2009 at St. Paul Hospital in Dallas. Starrett Funeral Home will conduct funeral services at 2:00 p.m. Saturday September 5, 2009 at Calvary Chapel, with Rev. Jason Duff and Rev. Randy Roam officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Starrett Funeral Home.
Mr. Jack was born December 17, 1925 in Delta County, the only child of Samuel Pate and Gertrude Sandridge Jack. He was a graduate of Cooper High School, then entered the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He continued his dedication to military service as a member of the Reserves until 1986. Following the war he attended The University of Texas at Arlington, obtaining his Bachelor of Science degree in Business. He was a founder of Guest Paper Company and served for thirty-seven years as Vice-President until his retirement at age 65. He then furthered his career in ranching, with the desire of upgrading the Polled Hereford breed. John enjoyed that accomplishment and was a fulltime rancher for the last twenty-seven years of his life.
He first married Nell Jean Taylor, who preceded him in death in 1972. On June 8, 1974 he married the former Marianne Haney in Paris.
John is survived by his wife; four daughters, Diane Kessler and husband Richard, of Celina, Susan Kay Moss and husband Bill, of Lake Kiowa, Pamela Prince and husband Michael, of Midland, and Dede Thomas and husband David, of Paris; two sons, John Michael Jack and wife Vivian, of Arlington and Edward Darrell Beavers, of Paris; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three cousins; and his special feline friend Garcia.
