Neva Dell Waggoner, 86, of Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA, passed away from Congestive Heart Failure on Tuesday, July 20. The funeral will be held at West Des Moines Christian Church, 4501 Mills Civic Pkwy, West Des Moines, on Saturday, July 24 at 11 a.m. Burial will immediately follow at Resthaven Cemetery. Visitation will precede the service from 10 to 11 a.m.
Mrs. Waggoner was born near Macksburg and had lived in Webster City and Ames before moving to West Des Moines, where she lived for 33 years before moving to McAuely Terrace in Johnston and 3801 Grand assisted living in Des Moines.
In school, she sang and accompanied music groups, was active in drama and played on the girl's basketball team. After acting tryouts, she was selected to appear in lead roles of several Iowa State Fair productions. She was Valedictorian of her Senior Class and was awarded a scholarship to Simpson College.
In addition to being an accomplished accompanist and vocalist, she played hand bells, taught piano and directed choirs.
Mrs. Waggoner was a member of the West Des Moines Christian Church and had been active in Women's Club. She was a member and organist of The Order of Eastern Star in Webster City.
She had been the Civic Newcomer Hostess in Ames and upon moving to West Des Moines, she became the Helpful Hostess of West Des Moines. She retired in 1977. Although a very active person throughout her life, her main focus was her family and home.
She is survived by two sons, Elwin (Carolyn) of Wyandotte, MI, and John (Lois) of Urbandale; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don.
