Anna Marie Padilla, 80, a resident of Las Vegas, NM passed away on Tuesday, May 19, 1009 at her daughters home in Belen, NM following an extended illness.
She was born on January 26, 1929 to Carlos Griego and Anita Marquez Griego in Watrous, NM. She was baptized and raised by her uncle and aunt, Antonio Griego and Elauteria Leyba Griego, after her mother passed away due to childbirth complications.
She married Adolfo Padilla on September 5, 1946 here in Las Vegas, NM and they had 53 wonderful years together before his passing on September 21, 1999. She spent her entire life in Las Vegas and graduated from Immaculate Conception School. . She worked at the Baca Store, B.& W. Shoe Store, Jayval Parachute Factory, JC Penney, TG&Y, and Revco. She enjoyed playing bingo, dancing and going to the casinos. She was a member of the Coro Santa Nino Choir. She was a lifelong catholic and was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church. and also a member of the VFW Post 1547 Womens Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her birth and adopted parents, her husband, her daughter Martha Valdez, her brothers Isidro, Eloy, and Charlie Griego, and sisters Roselia Segura and Emma Marrujo. She is survived by her sons: Larry Padilla and wife Sally, Michael Padilla and wife Rosemary, Charlie Padilla, and Patrick Padilla and wife Denise all of Albuquerque, NM, Jimmy Padilla and wife Bernadette of Los Lunas, NM, and Andrew Padilla and wife Shalee of Hillsbore, Ore., and son-in-law Edmundo Valdez of Albuquerque; daughters: Gloria Martinez and husband Gerald of La Mesilla, NM, Lisa Romero and husband Max of Las Vegas, NM, Judy Padilla and fianc David Reese and Audrey Olguin and husband Rodney all of Belen, NM; sisters, Toni Abeyta and Virginia Valdez of Colorado; in-laws: Raymond and Helen Padilla of Los Lunas, NM, Leroy and Elsie Padilla of Colorado, Francis Median of Las Vegas, NM, Ely and Rose Borrego of Colorado; numerous nieces and nephews, special cousins Alex and Tessie Marquez of Las Vegas, NM; 23 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and countless friends.
All services will be held from Our Lady of Sorrows Church with a rosary this evening at 7:00 p.m and the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. on Friday morning. The interment will follow in Saturday morning at 9:00 a.m. from the Santa Fe National Cemetery. The family has requested that memorials be made to the Heating and Air Conditioning Fund at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 403 Valencia Street, Las Vegas, NM 87701.
