Vicente Valiente Batiancila M.D., age 63, of Woodbridge, departed this life on Saturday, December 16, 2006, in his home. He was born on June 9, 1943, in the Philippines, to the late Quirino and Maria Valiente Batiancila. He served as the Chief of Medical Staff and Chief of Surgery at Milford Hospital. An active member of the community, he was the past President of the Southern Connecticut Division of the America Cancer Soc., and of the Connecticut Assoc. of the Philippine Physicians and a member of the Milford Rotary. He was also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Milford Medical Society, New Haven County Medical Association, and Connecticut State Medical Society. Dr. Batiancila is survived by his loving wife, of 34 years, Dr. Thelma Villaruel Batiancila, devoted children Neil Batiancila of Philadelphia, PA, Lauren Batiancila and Rachel Batiancila both of Boston, MA, brother Cresenciano Batiancila of San Jose Negros Oriental Philippines., sister Josefa Repollo of Tanjay, Negros Oriental Philippines and grandson Samuel Vincent Batiancila. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by a brother Epifanio Batiancila. Calling hours are Wednesday, December 20, 2006, from 3 to 7pm at the Smith Funeral Home, 135 Broad St., Milford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of the Assumption, 81 Center Rd, Woodbridge, at 10:30am on Thursday, December 21st. Interment will follow in Kings Highway Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his charitable medical effort in the Philippines, The Tanjay Project, c/o Milford Rotary, P.O. Box 381, Milford, CT 06460. The Tanjay Project is an emergency medical center established to resuscitate and stabilize patients in transit to hospital care one hour away from his hometown.
